Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament (MP), Patrick Boamah, has appealed to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo to step in and restore order within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr. Boamah believes that the two leaders command respect and authority, and as former presidents, their intervention can help reunite party members. He made the passionate appeal in an interview with the media amidst growing internal tensions within the party.
“This party has produced two presidents.
We are fortunate to have two former presidents alive. I am calling on them to call for some action and order in the party because this party produced them. “If we are going through this turmoil, we ask that they call people round the table and have a heart-to-heart chat with them,” he stated.Mr. Boamah expressed disappointment with the NPP leadership over the decision to hold an early presidential primary.
“We need to fix the party before deciding who becomes the presidential candidate,” he stated. He added that ‘We as a caucus must also conduct an in-depth analysis of our own performance — because you can’t prescribe solutions without first doing a proper diagnosis.’
